Lecture Capture

The lecture capturing system currently being used in the classrooms is the Echo 360 system (formerly known as Apreso). This lecture capture system combined with the classroom video camera captures all aspects of a classroom lecture for web-based, interactive, rich media playback to distance students.  Audio from the classroom sound system, data sent to the classroom data projector, and video of the instructor captured with the video camera mounted in the classroom are all captured with Echo 360.  The three data streams are then automatically synchronized and sent to a streaming server.  Once the link to the Echo 360 capture is added to a course web site, students are able to view the entire classroom session.

Echo 360 files are streamed from a School of Pharmacy and Health Professions streaming server.  Faculty are able to manage students' access to the Echo 360 files by enabling or disabling the links to the files within their course web sites.

Echo 360 is installed in the following classrooms:

HLS G04 Criss III L57 BIC G09 BIC G10 BIC G11 Criss III 361 Boyne 112

Echo 360 in these rooms is preconfigured to automatically start and stop at the beginning and end of each class session.  If an instructor does not wish for an Echo 360 capture to be made available to students he/she should contact an instructional designer.  If an Echo 360 capture is needed outside of a regularly scheduled class session, contact a SPAHP instructional designer.  Links to the Echo 360 captures are made available to students within 24 hours of the capture.

The use of Echo 360 within the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions is limited to distance students.

An example of a lecture capture can be found at http://rewind.echo360.com/samples/creighton.htm

To find out more about Echo 360 contact a School of Pharmacy and Health Professions instructional designer.
