Outlook Web Access

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 is part of the Office 2007 suite of programs installed on your computer. Outlook incorporates your email, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes in one location for your convenience, making it easier to organize your work and share your information with others. The contents of your mailbox resides on a central Exchange server which is backed up nightly to preserve your data.

With the new features in Outlook 2007, your calendar and tasks for the day are more visual, it is easier to format your email messages, and it is now possible to share your calendar with others who do not have a Creighton account.

CUMail uses Outlook Web Access (OWA) to access your Microsoft Outlook mailbox (located on a central Exchange server) by using a web browser from any computer that has internet connection. You can connect using browsers for Windows®, UNIX, or Apple Macintosh. OWA is an effective, easy to use solution for people who require roaming, remote access, or cross-platform functionality.

To access your mailbox using CUMail, go to http://cumail.creighton.edu. You will need to log on with your Blue NetID and password to authenticate. Preface your NetID with the word blue and the backward slash (e.g. blue\abc12345).

Managing your mailbox

Your Creighton Outlook mailbox is stored on a Microsoft Exchange Server and backed up daily. Storage limits have been set to 150 MB for students and 300 MB for faculty and staff. Once this limit is reached, mail cannot be sent from or received by your mailbox. DoIT will send a worning notice to students when there mailbox reaches 125 MB and to faculty and staff when their mailbox reaches 260 MB. It is important to manage the content of your mailbox by deleting unneeded items and archiving the older items you want to keep.

When you archive items in your mailbox, they are removed from the server and stored on your computer so it is very important that you remember to back up those files to a CD or other media. These files can be stored in your My Documents folder but the file(s) can get large and compromise that folder‟s size limit also. Fees will be charged by DoIT for mailboxes that exceed the 300 MB limit.

For information on how to archive your mailbox items and free up your allotted space on the Exchange server, read this Archiving Outlook document.
