QuestionMark

Online assessments of student learning  for campus and distance students may be created using QuestionMark software.  QuestionMark offers a wide variety of question types and assessment settings.  To find out more about the features offered by QuestionMark contact Ms. DeDe Hedlund  (dhedlund@creighton.edu) or visit the QuestionMark web site at http://www.questionmark.com/us/perception/index.aspx

QuestionMark assessments are available for campus and distance students enrolled in the entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Pharmacy, and Doctor of Physical Therapy programs.

To create an assessment using QuestionMark contact Ms. DeDe Hedlund, Application Administrator at dhedlund@creighton.edu.

Timelines for creating assessments with QuestionMark
The time required to create an assessment using QuestionMark varies depending on length of the assessment, question types, and other assessment parameters employed.  In general, the following timeline is followed for creating online assessments with QuestionMark.

  • At least 3 weeks prior to the assessment date - all exam questions are given to DeDe in a Word document.
  • 2 weeks prior to administration of assessment the instructor meets with DeDe to review assessment in Question Mark, identify and change errors. DeDe will contact faculty to arrange a time to review the assessment.
  • 1 week prior to administration of assessment DeDe posts and assigns assessment to appropriate student group.

Assessment Questions submitted in a Word document for translation into QuestionMark should include:

  • Question
  • Answer choices with correct choice first
  • Highlight the correct choice
  • Number the questions
  • Indicate number of points for each question
  • Notation if questions are to be randomized.  Note any questions that need to be contiguous.
  • Notation if answer choices are to be scrambled.  Options are to:
    • Scramble all choices
    • Scramble all choices except the last one for questions that include ‘all of the above’ and ‘none of the above’ options
  • Type of student feedback to be included
    • Score only
    • Score and indication of which questions were answered incorrectly, with or without explanation
    • Score and correct answers with or without explanations
  • Total points for exam – a check that can be used to ensure that all the question points add up to the total and no questions were missed
  • No indentations, tabbing, no formatting (Bold, italics, font formatting is OK)

Online Exam Considerations

Case studies that are used in more than one question.  Scrolling up and down the screen to refer to a case study is distracting. Solutions to prevent the need to scroll include; 1. Make a note on the Word document indicating which case studies are needed for each question. The case study will then be included with each question. 2. For distance students - provide a copy of the case studies to the proctor to give to the student at exam time. For on campus students hand out a hard copy of the case studies.

Long list of supplemental material (e.g.,equations.) If the list of equations fits on a laptop screen without scrolling these can easily be included in the exam. If the supplemental material covers several pages scrolling once again becomes an issue. The best solution is: for web based students - provide a copy of the supplemental material to the proctor to give to the student at exam time. For on campus students distribute a hard copy of the supplemental material to each student.
